Pentecost 2024 | Exodus 23:14-17. Birth of Israel birth of church
- “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4
-
- Today we celebrate a feast of Israel called Pentecost
- Pentecost was established 50 days after Passover on Mount Sinai when God met with Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments
- Jesus fulfilled Passover and the Holy Spirit fulfilled Pentecost
-
- Jesus is the lamb and the blood of that lamb covers our heart and the death angel will Passover us
- Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit came and wrote the commandments of God upon our heart
- Jeremiah 31:33 “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
- The feasts had to do with God providing for his people after coming out of Egypt the spiritual is how God provides for us in the spiritual!
-
- God gives in natural and we respond with offerings
- In the spiritual God gives us redemption and then his Holy Spirit and now we respond by giving our life
- Shavout or Pentecost feast of weeks the people had been reaping a harvest now the Lord says as I have given return to me a portion
- Acts 2 God pours out His Spirit and says return to me the fruit of the spirit
- In order for man to truly fellowship with God there had to be a connection. Man had lost that connection because of sin. A temporary system was created until another more permanent solution was established. The temporary solution was a sacrificial system. Permanent solution was the atoning work of Jesus
-
- Hebrews 10:14 for by one offering he has forever perfected those who are sanctified. The Holy Spirit also witnesses to us about this. For after saying, this is the covenant that I will make with them after those days says the Lord I will put my laws into their hearts and in their minds I will write them, then he adds, their sins and lawless deeds will I remember no more
- God made the Hebrews his people at Passover and wrote His laws on stone at Pentecost 3000 died
-
- God made the church His people at Christ’s death and resurrection and at Pentecost He write His laws upon their heart 3000 saved
- Acts 2:1. Like a wind
-
- Ezekiel 37:1-14 Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live”
- Israel had fallen to The enemy and the Lord speaks of their restoration. A type of Pentecost. The breath of God on dry bones
- “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.” Matthew 27:51-53
- Image of Fire at Pentecost is compared to the burning bush and the pillar of Fire also the burning coal to touch Isaiah’s lips to purify him
-
- Acts 1:8 you shall receive power
- Covenant
- The feasts were not just spiritual but also in the natural.
-
- Feast of Harvests. A celebration of Gods provision in the wilderness
- They would honor God with first fruits of harvests in hope for a future harvest.
Offering: video lev 23:15. Deut 16:9.
Natural-The feast of Passover and the seven days of Unleavened Bread, is first. It commemorates the day Israel left Egypt under Moses on their way to the Promised Land. The second feast, Pentecost, or Harvest, commemorates the giving of the law at Mount Sinai, the day the fire of God came down upon the mount, and God spoke to all the people. The third feast, Tabernacles, or Ingathering, commemorates two things: (1) the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness; and (2) the time Israel was supposed to cross the Jordan into the Promised Land.
Spiritual-On the personal side, Passover signifies our Justification from the bondage of sin (“Egypt”). Pentecost signifies our Sanctification by the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Tabernacles signifies our Glorification at “the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23), when we inherit our “Promised Land.”
And so we see there were three main feast days of Israel: Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. Each of these called for temple ceremonies involving a different product of the harvest: barley, wheat, and grapes. The first two are grain; the last is a fruit. These are harvest festivals at the three times in the year when all the males were to stand before the presence (“face”) of God. These three festivals are prophetic of the “harvest of souls,” where the divine command goes forth for men to stand before God.
