The Underlining Attack on Humility
Humility is a character which Christ imposes in a surrendered vessel. All of us as believers grow in humility as we grow in Christ. Humility is the vessel that truly knows that all things come from God and desire nothing of this world and the emphasis is on the word “Nothing”! The devil attacks through pride all believers humility as to bring destruction to the believers walk.
”Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.“ Proverbs 16:18
Satan’s attack on Adam took place as he got him to start thinking about God holding out thus elevating himself over Gods purpose and to stop trusting God. This in essence is pride
When we start becoming more than nothing we start having an opinion. When our thoughts start elevating us from being a servant
”Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.“ John 2:23-25 NKJV
Lack of humility destroys relationships, lack of humility always sooner or later will allow sin to enter
Look at Judas/what happened
He left everything like the others
What caused him to betray his Jesus
The devil got him thinking
The devil him confessing his thoughts to the Pharisees
The devil got him acting on those thoughts
Pride always tries to attack our relationships in order to destroy them
A parent and a child/the child begins to rebel in thought then meditates on it and confesses their rebellion until they carry bout a rebellious act
Husband and wife begin to think thoughts which elevate self then confession and action
Pastor and the flock! Someone starts having thoughts attacking their relationship to the pastor confession is made and then action.
Answer to all is Humility
”Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him, and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great.” Luke 9:46-48 NKJV
”At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.“ Matthew 18:1-3
”Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise Lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.“ Luke 22:24-27 NKJV
”Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.“ John 13:1-5 NKJV
”So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.“ John 13:12-17 NKJV
Andrew Murray said that our love to God will be measured by our every day intercourse with men and the love it displays And also humility towards men will be the only sufficient proof that our humility before God is real
In other words, no humility to men equals no humility with God
”If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?“ I John 4:20 NKJV
Murray also concludes that the only humility we carry is what we carry with us and carry out in our ordinary conduct, the insignificance‘s of daily life are the importances and the tests of eternity because they prove it really is the spirit that possesses us. It is in our most unguarded moments that we really show and see what we are. To know the humble man to know how the humble man behaves you must follow him in the common course of daily life.
The disciples were ready to die for Christ. They said so they had given up everything to follow him. They were used by him and went out and saw miracles signs, and wonders, and yet consistently, they brought up the fact and fought amongst themselves at who would be the greatest, they were still something so embedded within their nature, that even these great disciples had to die to something, although they all would end up giving their lives for God, the greater battle was not a physical death, but was the death of striving to be the greatest
True humility comes when, in the light of God, we have seen ourselves to be absolutely nothing, therefore no longer comparing ourselves with others
Humility can praise God when others are preferred and blessed before him, he can bear to hear others praised, and himself forgotten because he has learned to say just like Paul I am nothing
