Never Lose Reverence

  1. Reverence-A feeling of profound awe and respect
    1. ”“If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE Lord YOUR GOD, then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues—great and prolonged plagues—and serious and prolonged sicknesses.“ Deuteronomy‬ ‭28‬:‭58‬-‭59‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬
    2. ”Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.“Psalms‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬
    3. ”My flesh trembles for fear of You, And I am afraid of Your judgments.“ Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭120‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬
  1. When God brought the children of Israel out of bondage He had to teach the people the ways of God; How to enter into His presence
    1. ”And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good?“ Deuteronomy‬ ‭10‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬
  1. Nadab and Abihu and strange fire
    1. ”Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying: ‘By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.’” So Aaron held his peace.“ Leviticus‬ ‭10‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬
    2. Their sin was irreverence for the Living God
      1. Some have suggested one of their sins was taking on an office not prescribed for them on High priest
      2. Also taking not the fire from the burner offering but their own – strange
      3. Not using the prescribed censor but their own thus treating God as familiar
      4. Offered it together when prescribed to be a single priest possibly desiring the results of prescribed chapter of fire falling and the results that followed which could have been the applause of men
      5. Possible they were intoxicated
    1. Strange Fire- this irreverent act is what all the acts I’ve just mentioned culminated into. Strange Fire was offered- Gods presence so offended He killed them.
    2. Fire was to come from the altar and no where else.
      1. The fire will not come through education!
      2. Fire will come only through someone surrendered to and with deep reverence for an anointing of God to do what God has prescribed
  1. David too familiar with Gods presence
    1. ”And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.“ II Samuel‬ ‭6‬:‭2‬-‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬
    2. ”Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep. Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.“ II Samuel‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬
